Starting guitarists need to master a few key fundamentals before moving to songs or complex techniques.

• Guitar components: Learn the names of key sections like the body and fretboard.
• Open string names: Memorise the six open string notes to understand chord diagrams.
• Finger placement: Keep thumb placement on the back of the neck while fingers curve naturally.
• Basic strumming: Develop a steady down-up motion by keeping the arm still rather than elbow movement.

Master these basics first to avoid bad habits that limit your playing.
