Book guitar lessons with expert teachers

Guitar beginners should start with four fundamental elements that create strong groundwork.

• Guitar anatomy: Identify the soundhole along with the tuning pegs to understand its physical layout.
• Open string names: Standard tuning assigns set values to the strings when unfretted: E-A-D-G-B-E.
• Left-hand form: Keep the thumb position on the back of the neck while fingers curve naturally.
• Basic strumming: Practice basic downstrokes before adding complex rhythms.

Master these fundamentals first to avoid bad habits that slow progress later.

The average cost of an hour of guitar instruction in Maddington is approximately $25/h.

The cost varies based on multiple criteria:

• Your skill level (advanced, or university level)
• The teacher's qualifications (years teaching)
• The format chosen (60-minute sessions, intensive courses)
• Where lessons occur (at the teacher's studio)

Some instructors offer reduced rates when you commit to regular lessons, which makes learning more affordable.

The 80-20 rule states that most of your progress comes from a small portion of practice.

For guitarists, this means focusing on essentials like rhythm accuracy rather than trying to learn too much.

Essential focus areas:

• Smooth chord transitions between basic shapes like G-C-D or E-A-B
• Even tempo control using rhythmic exercises
• Understanding scale patterns in one key thoroughly
• Listening skills to play by ear

This approach reduces frustration by prioritising techniques that improve multiple areas.
