Pianos are built around a 12-note pattern that spans the full instrument.

The 12 notes consist of C, C-sharp, D, D-sharp, E, F, F-sharp, G, G-sharp, A, A-sharp, and B.

• Sharp and flat notes are two names for the same key. C-sharp equals D-flat on the keyboard.
• Each octave spans 7 natural notes plus 5 accidentals.
• On an 88-key piano, this 12-note pattern repeats over 7 times.

This 12-note foundation unlocks all scales, chords, and melodies.
