About Whitney
Music has been a guiding force in my life from an early age, shaping my identity and career as a pianist and educator. With a deep-rooted passion for both classical traditions and the improvisational freedom of jazz, I bring over a decade of dedicated experience to my role as a piano teacher.
My musical journey began with intensive classical training, where I developed a strong technical foundation and an appreciation for the depth and complexity of classical repertoire. This rigorous training instilled in me a disciplined approach to music that I now impart to my students. As I progressed, my curiosity led me to explore jazz and other contemporary genres, expanding my musical palette and inspiring my teaching philosophy that values both tradition and innovation.
As a teacher, I am committed to fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where students of all ages and levels can thrive. I tailor my teaching approach to each student's unique strengths, learning style, and musical aspirations. Whether guiding beginners through their first scales or coaching advanced students through intricate pieces, I prioritize patience, encouragement, and individualized attention.
Beyond technical instruction, I aim to instill in my students a deep love and understanding of music. I encourage creativity and self-expression, teaching not just how to play notes but how to interpret and convey emotions through music. Through regular performance opportunities, music theory exploration, and exposure to diverse musical styles, I empower my students to develop into well-rounded musicians who are confident in their abilities and passionate about their craft.
My journey as a pianist and educator is driven by a profound belief in the transformative power of music and its ability to enrich lives. I am dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians, sharing my knowledge and love for music, and inspiring each student to reach their full potential on their musical journey.

In my piano lessons, I strive to create a transformative experience where students not only develop technical proficiency but also cultivate a deep appreciation for music as a form of self-expression and creativity. With a foundation in both classical rigour and jazz improvisation, I tailor each lesson to the individual needs and goals of my students, regardless of their level of experience.
Beginning with fundamental techniques such as proper hand positioning, scales, and sight-reading, I ensure that students build a solid groundwork that supports their musical journey. As students progress, I introduce them to a diverse repertoire that spans classical masterpieces, jazz standards, and contemporary pieces. This variety not only exposes them to different musical styles but also encourages exploration and personal interpretation.
I place a strong emphasis on musicality, helping students understand the nuances of dynamics, phrasing, and emotional expression within the music they play. Beyond technical instruction, I incorporate music theory and history into lessons to provide context and deepen their understanding of the pieces they are learning.
My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel empowered to take risks, make mistakes, and grow as musicians. Through patient guidance, constructive feedback, and regular performance opportunities, I aim to foster confidence and a lifelong passion for piano playing in each of my students.
Ultimately, my goal is to inspire a love for music that extends beyond the piano keys, enriching students' lives and nurturing their creativity as they embark on their musical journey. Each lesson is a step towards not only mastering the piano but also discovering the joy and fulfillment that music can bring.
