About James

Hi, I’m James! I grew up in Wales and am currently studying an MSc in Edinburgh, having completed 3 years of Medicine at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. My favourite subjects at school were Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, and I achieved A*s in all three at A level.

Having a strong academic foundation from school led me to achieving a distinction at the end of my pre-clinical medical studies, reflecting a strong understanding of biology/chemistry and the wider foundations of medicine.

My aim is to make school subjects clear, engaging and much less intimidating, helping you build a solid understanding while focusing on the knowledge and exam techniques that actually matter. Whether you're struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an exam, or simply want to strengthen your foundations, I’ll tailor sessions around you and your goals.

About the lesson

I focus on a 1:1 approach to teaching, uniquely personalising each lesson towards the long-term goals of the student. I can tailor specifically towards your exam learning objectives. I use a range of visual presentation styles to explore the concept in question, in a way that is easy for you to understand and memorise. I focus primarily on understanding complex material, rather than pure memorisation as I feel this is the most beneficial and yields the greatest exam success.

Typical length of a lesson - 1 hour

I achieved an A* in A level and GCSE biology in Wales (WJEC exam board). I am currently intercalating, taking a year out of my medical studies to study an MSc in Clinical Anatomy at the University of Edinburgh and focus on my tutoring skills.
