About Mary
I’m a practising artist who first specialised in photography at university, but these days you’ll usually find me sketching figures, drawing from life, or carving away at a lino block. I love exploring different materials, and my occasional freelance work in prop and set design means I get to play with all sorts of creative techniques—skills I’m always excited to pass on.
I’ve been a full‑time secondary school Art teacher since 2014, working with students of every ability and helping them grow in confidence and creativity. I bring a warm, encouraging approach to my lessons, making sure each student feels supported, inspired, and free to experiment.
I also hold an enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, so you can feel confident that you’re learning in a safe and professional environment.

I’m often told by my students that I bring patience, kindness, and a calming presence to every lesson. Parents frequently share that their child has discovered a genuine love for Art through our sessions, and a head teacher once remarked that I “really know how to get the best out of my students.”
I hold a BA (Hons) in Photography from Falmouth University (2013) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (2014). This combination of creative training and pedagogical expertise—alongside a strong understanding of the UK secondary Art & Design curriculum—allows me to support learners with both skill and sensitivity.

I have experience teaching Art to learners aged 4 to 18, from complete beginners to students preparing for GCSEs or A-levels. Whether you’re exploring art for the first time or looking to refine your technique, my goal is to make each tutorial engaging, enjoyable, and personally meaningful.
