I am a current senior at the University of Pennsylvania, studying Mathematical Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences. Hi! My name is Nick!
When it comes to test prep/tutoring in quantitative subjects, I place a great deal of emphasis on intelligent repetition, seeking to identify where you are strong so you can focus on where you need improvement. As a college applicant in high school, your time is quite literally golden, and any efficiencies that we can find together will pay huge dividends for both your performance and state of mind. My job is done when you can sit for an exam and immediately get to work in a flow state that makes you feel confident of the best results. I will teach you the techniques that years in the trenches have shown me to work, so you do not need to endure the same grind.
With respect to admissions prep, I like to think that I am jaded so you don't have to be! My commitment to you is that I will always give you the truth. The dirty reality about admissions is that, frankly, the only people actively working in your interest are yourself, your loved ones, and whoever else has a direct incentive to see you succeed (there's the economist in me haha). Neither your school counselor nor the admissions staff that judge years of effort in a few minutes actually care about your desired college outcome first. The former is primarily employed to protect the interests of your high school, ensuring that the aggregate results of your class align with the administration's goals. The latter ... well ... just google any of the recent litigation taking place over discriminatory admissions practices at your own risk. (Here's a quick anecdote to demonstrate my point; I spent three years in high school doing unpaid research for a lab at Yale, getting named on two publications, and was still not admitted over other applicants from my school with weaker profiles.)
There are unfortunately no guarantees in college admissions, but together we can go far. To that end, I will leverage my years of experience editing student essays, personal statements, and even post-doctoral papers to give you the tools that you need to present yourself in the best possible light.
