I would first like to understand the individual capabilities of students by taking a conceptual test. Then start with the basics of chapter and slowly go to the level of depthness required.
I believe if one wants to TOP in an exam he should study questions one level higher ex. If you are preparing for CET and want to top you should be able to solve JEE mains level questions and similarly for mains you should prepare advanced level.
