About Laura
I am a biotechnology scientist with a PhD in Microalgae Biotechnology from the University of Greenwich and a strong interest in scientific data and computational biology.
My background combines academic research with experience across biotechnology, molecular biology, data analysis and AI. I have also worked as a Biology Subject Lead on AI projects for Google, focused on educational technology and the development and evaluation of AI-powered learning experiences in biology.
I enjoy making science approachable and helping students gain confidence with topics that can initially seem complex, whether that is biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics or working with scientific data.
Having worked across both laboratory science and computational projects, I can also help students bridge the gap between traditional biology and increasingly important data and programming skills.

My lessons are friendly, practical and tailored to each student's level and goals. I have a PhD in Microalgae Biotechnology and a multidisciplinary background in biology, biotechnology, scientific research, bioinformatics and data analysis.
I focus on making complex scientific concepts easier to understand through clear explanations and practical examples, rather than simply memorising information.
For Biology and Biotechnology, I can support GCSE, A-level and university students with topics including molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry and biotechnology.
I also offer beginner Bioinformatics and Scientific Data Analysis lessons, including Python, pandas, xarray, data visualisation, Linux/Bash, Git/GitHub and introductory RNA-seq workflows. These lessons are hands-on and use practical exercises and scientific datasets.
Lessons typically last 60 minutes and are adapted to your experience and objectives. I particularly enjoy helping students from a biology background become more confident with computational and data-analysis skills.
