I am a Postdoctoral Researcher (PhD) in Environmental Geochemistry at the University of Toronto. I have a strong background in chemistry, environmental science, geology, geography, and biology. Rather than relying on memorization, I aim to build confidence by helping students develop a strong foundation in scientific concepts. I hold a BSc in Chemistry, so my greatest experience lies in explaining fundamental chemistry concepts. However, my enthusiasm for science comes from the multidisciplinary links between chemistry and the natural sciences and how these principles shape the environment around us.
I understand how stressful school and exams can feel, so I strive to make every lesson approachable, engaging, and enjoyable. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing confidence in their abilities.
Lessons are tailored to each student's goals and follow the relevant curriculum to ensure they are learning exactly what they need for school or exams. To determine a student's current knowledge and understanding, I assess their understanding of some key concepts and applications. From these results, I provide a set of objectives for each lesson so that the sessions are clearly structured, ensuring that progress is tracked and evident. To make complex topics easier to understand, I use a combination of clear explanations, real-world applications, diagrams, interactive discussions, and worked examples. Depending on the student's learning style, I also incorporate Quizlet flashcards, short knowledge checks, exam-style questions, and problem-solving exercises to reinforce learning and improve long-term retention.
A typical one-hour lesson begins with a brief review of previous material and any questions the student may have. We then spend around 30–35 minutes exploring a new topic, breaking down key concepts into manageable steps and relating them to practical examples where appropriate. The final part of the lesson focuses on applying this knowledge through exam questions, practice problems, or interactive activities, followed by a short summary and recommendations for independent revision before the next session.
My lessons are suitable for students in Grades 7–12 studying chemistry, biology, geography, geology, environmental science as well as first-year undergraduate students seeking additional support. Whether you're aiming to improve your grades, prepare for exams, or simply gain confidence in science, I provide patient, personalized tuition designed to help you succeed.
