About Will

My name is Will and I am a primary school teacher at Spring Cottage Primary School in Hull. I have been teaching for six years now and have taught across a range of primary year groups. As the PE lead and computing lead for the school, you may be wondering why I am offering English tutoring services. The answer is simple, I love teaching English. Hearing children read stories and poems that they have put time and effort into drafting, writing, editing and polishing is such a proud feeling. Having children of my own, seeing them develop as writers really does bring pure happiness. It is a personal belief of mine that all children should be able to write for a purpose, and should want to write for pleasure; something that is becoming less and less common with the advance in technology. As brilliant as technology is, nothing can replace the imagination of children. I see it as my job to harness that imagination and turn it into something tangible for them to be proud of.

About the lesson

Are you looking to add that extra spark to your creative writing? Maybe you have ‘blank page phobia’ and can never seem to get started, or run out of ideas halfway through writing? You might even be seeking to improve your sentence structure, spelling or command of grammar! Whatever it may be, with six years of experience in the classroom as a qualified teacher across a range of year groups, I’ll be sure to help with anything you need. Having always enjoyed writing for pleasure, being able to express oneself through words really is a fantastic feeling. The ability to make your audience feel excitement with a thrilling quest story, terror via a chilling suspense story or empathy through a finding tale, requires a clear understanding of how each text type works, how they are constructed, the grammatical features that are interwoven throughout, the language that is expected and the tone in which they are written. That’s where Talk4Writing comes in. The legendary Pi Corbett, who has been beyond influential in teaching children to write, has designed a skeleton framework for teachers to make their own. Having had several years to hone the Talk4Writing programme and test a whole host of techniques on primary children of all ages, I can guarantee that you will develop as a writer under my tutoring, with targeted sequences of lessons that will tackle all areas of the National curriculum, and will leave you with the ability to write your own breathtaking stories to share with your friends, family and teachers.
