About Rob

I am a professional historian with over 10 years of experience in the field. I achieved my doctorate from the University of Oxford with master's degrees from St Andrews and Glasgow. I have several publications on a range of topics within the 18th and 19th centuries. I have taught at all levels of the education system from school right through to university level and have tutored numerous students through a variety of topics.

Over this time I have learned to tailor lessons to the individual in question to ensure best results. Nothing has brought me greater joy than having students get in contact and hearing they have been successful in their examinations or applications. The reason why we teach is to ensure the greatest success for those who have put their trust in us.

About the lesson

The humanities are, at their deepest core, subjective subjects. Those who look to study history are themselves individuals and therefore each student's approach should be tailored to their own style of learning and knowledge retention.

Any first lesson will be focused on highlighting the student's needs and developing a full plan for achieving their goals. Subsequent lessons will review past material and focus on developing core skills as required. Students are encouraged to ask questions and participate in the planning processes.

Progress in history is relatively easy to measure, the recall of facts coupled with the development of essential essay writing skills can be tracked and relayed to the student to ensure they have a clear understanding of their position. The most important part of the learning process is progress, once students can see they are improving the path becomes much clearer for continuing on this trend. Along with the connectivity of history, understanding how the isolated events of the curriculum fit into a more comprehensive scope will also assist in allowing the students to recognize the importance of the events they are studying.

Typically lessons will be 1-2hrs but flexible time schedules are available.

I offer lessons for all levels and ages, whether it be for school examinations, university essay writing, or simply general interest. With more than 10 years of experience tutoring, I have assisted students from all levels to achieve their goals, from a string of examination A's to successful entrance to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
