About Josh

I'm here for you. This is my fundamental philosophy for a room full of 20 students, and it's my philosophy on a Zoom call with a single person. Anyone can make the art they've always wanted - it just takes someone willing and patient to guide them. As for experience. I've been working in the games and entertainment industry for nearly 15 years. I've worked for everyone from Ubisoft to independent studios where I was literally the only artist. Currently, I teach two classes (Digital Painting, and Environment/background art) at The School of Visual Arts in New York City. My lessons are a fusion of my time in the industry and my time teaching students to enter the industry. Last semester, I sent a student off to DreamWorks to intern!

About the lesson

My lessons are built specifically for the student right in front of me, pulled from 75 hours of tried and true lessons I teach in my college classes. I'll start with a meet and greet where we discuss where you are now as an artist and where you want to go next. Likewise, we discuss how *you* learn more effectively. I've taught hundreds of students and I'm keenly aware that everyone learns differently. I want to maximize your chance to hear information in such a way that you get the fabled lightbulb moment.

All of my lessons are conducted with digital software, which is your choice (Photoshop, Clip Studio, Procreate, etc). Topics of learning include: drawing, perspective, composition, painting, illustration, style, concept art, environment art, intro to 3D, etc etc. I will craft the course around your needs!
