About Jaclyn
I am a qualified English and History teacher with 3 years experience. I have achieved excellent results whilst teaching more than 100 learners at a high school in Cape Town, South Africa.

I firmly believe that knowledge production must come from oneself. For example, grammar is taught through means of correct and incorrect examples. Learners are required/encouraged to figure out the rules in place. I steer away from the old school method of teaching where one is given a list of rules along with a list of examples. You need to be invested and play an actual role in the learning process.
I am passionate about History and English, particularly literature which I engage in in my free time. As a teacher I seek to not only teach literature for the sake of merely learning the nuts and bolts of a text but to also attempt to imbue my love of reading and books in learners. Reading allows us to understand the lives of others and helps to foster empathy and an appreciation of our shared humanity. Literature widens our knowledge and sense of experience, all of these qualities are vital to learning.
