About Kirsty
As a qualified coach and active competitor in boxing, I already possess a large breadth of knowledge and experience regarding the sports and fitness industries, not to mention being hugely passionate within my roles as a coach, captain, and athlete.
My experiences with coaching a diverse range of individuals, including both children and adults, has made it clear to me how much I value the opportunity to help others develop and progress towards the achievement of a goal, whether these goals be large or small, short-term or longitudinal.
In addition to boxing, for which I was Edinburgh University’s first women to achieve a Blues award for the sport, I have participated and competed in a wide range of sporting domains, including weightlifting, Cross Training, gymnastics, horse-riding and rock-climbing.
I have recently completed my Masters qualification in Performance Psychology, a degree programme which focuses on the psychology behind developing, maintaining and enhancing high-level performance over multiple domains, including sport, medicine, academic, business and performing arts. This course has enriched my knowledge and understanding of how the pathway to one’s desired performance level can be reached for different individuals.
I am currently undergoing a level 3 personal training and nutrition course. I also work as a physiotherapy assistant during a physical activity session for stroke patients. I also help coach women’s boxing classes with both children and adults.
Working with these vulnerable groups means that I am especially considerate regarding the safety and welfare of those attending, and am aware of the required courses of action to take should there be an emergency. Such experiences working with diverse populations also means that I am proficient in adapting to meet the needs of different individuals.

My experiences with coaching a diverse range of individuals, including both children and adults, has made it clear to me how much I value the opportunity to help others develop and progress towards the achievement of a goal, whether these goals be large or small, short-term or longitudinal.
I am inventive and organised with my session plans, and enjoy creating physical activity routines for attendees that they find both challenging yet fun. I also understand the importance of flexibility, therefore I ensure that such regimes are suitable for the attendees who may be of various levels of experience, and that I can make changes to the original session plan accordingly.
My main priorities for teaching sports include:
1) Creating mastery experiences for those in attendance, meaning that I aim to give them a sense of control over their workouts
2) Developing their intrinsic motivation for the sport, meaning that I want to help those I am teaching to carry on with the sport because they enjoy it.
3) Establishing trust and rapport with participants
4) Understanding and putting the participant's fitness and sporting goals first
