About David

The Producer and Writer (under the pseudonym Charles Parker) of"Breakin'" (1984) one of the most successful independent movies of all time.

Producer and Writer of "Freefall" (1993) starring Eric Roberts.

Script doctor for countless scripts - spec, in development, sometimes in production - for two decades.

Creative director at York Entertainment, 2003-2004

Columbia Pictures, Sony Entertainment, scriptwriting, 1989-1990

Lecturer; my one-day course entitled "The Dialectic Principle in Story Structure and Scene Construction" has been well received in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, London and Johannesburg.

I have taught my own private writing workshops, off and on, since 1992.

About the lesson

I studied screenwriting with many good teachers during my early years, but the three years I spent in the private workshop of Robert McKee were exceptional. A year later, I was the writer and Producer of the number one movie in the world, which opened in 63 countries simultaneously. Eventually, I taught my own writer's circle, and the first year saw five of my nine students land a deal of some sort with their writing. I know this subject, and I know how to teach it. Expect to discuss the most technical aspects of story construction, but also expect to step back for a wider view, with an emphasis on how to sell your script, why a particular movie gets made, or does not, and how to ensure your project has relevance. All levels of experience are welcome. Dedication and focus are required, just like in the film business. The first to sign up will get my sole attention, but as more sign on I may put together a group of eight or nine for a weekly meeting, each week analyzing one or two of our works. You'll get feedback from a variety of viewpoints, offered honestly and without filters, from fellow students without agendas, just the desire to help. It's guaranteed your writing will get stronger.

I have known David for about 8 years now when we met at a local ski area. Although I’m back on the east coast, I speak to David weekly. I have learned so much about film making, screen writing and the ins-and-outs about delivering a script to the majors in Hollywood. David is brilliant and compassionate in his craft. You will not find a better teacher in this unique field.
