My approach in reading is to have the student mainly work it out on their own by asking leading questions. For example, if a student is trying to sound out a word, I would ask them questions like what does the R sound makes. Then we would go through each letter till they can sound out the word altogether.
I have taught high school students in essay formats, structures, and overall analysis interpretation.
I typically try to plan out 30 minutes of reading and 30 minutes of writing.
It's a gift of mine to have a lot of patience in terms of working with people of all ages instead of flat out giving them the answer because I believe it better to help them work it out themselves
