About Jess
I’m a college writing instructor with a background in composition, rhetoric, and digital media, and I’ve spent years helping students become more confident, capable writers.
I currently teach college-level writing courses, where I guide students through everything from essay development and research to argumentation, structure, and clarity. My approach focuses on making writing feel less intimidating and more manageable, breaking down complex ideas into practical steps that actually make sense.
What I’ve learned through teaching is that strong writing isn’t about being “naturally good” at it. It’s about understanding how to think, organize, and communicate your ideas effectively. That’s what I help my students do.
Beyond the classroom, I also have experience in professional writing and content creation, which allows me to support students not just academically, but with real-world writing skills as well.
I’m patient, supportive, and focused on helping you improve in a way that feels clear, achievable, and tailored to your goals.

Writing can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re staring at a blank page or trying to make your ideas sound clear and organized. In our sessions, we focus on turning that overwhelm into a clear, step-by-step process you can actually follow.
Each lesson is tailored to what you need. We might break down an assignment, map out your ideas, strengthen your thesis, or revise a draft together to improve clarity, structure, and flow. I’ll guide you through the why behind each change so you’re not just fixing one paper, you’re building skills you can use every time you write.
A typical lesson might look like this: we start by identifying your goal for the session, whether that’s understanding an assignment, brainstorming ideas, or revising a draft. From there, we work through your writing together in real time, focusing on structure, clarity, and development. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, make revisions on the spot, and leave with clear next steps so you can continue improving outside of our session.
If you’re working on creative writing, we can focus on developing your voice, strengthening your storytelling, and bringing your ideas to life in a way that feels authentic to you.
My sessions are collaborative, supportive, and judgment-free. You can ask questions, try things out, and learn at your own pace without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
I work with high school students, college students, and adult learners at all levels. Whether you need help passing a class, improving your writing skills, or bringing an idea to life, these lessons are designed to meet you where you are and help you grow from there.

I’ve had the privilege of knowing Jess for over 15 years, and during that time, we’ve worked together across four different roles in marketing and communications. Most recently, we collaborated for six years at ChenMed, where Jess led long-form content creation while I focused on social media strategy and promotion. Our work was deeply interconnected—her writing brought our campaigns to life, and my team amplified her voice. Simply put, we couldn’t have done our jobs effectively without each other.
What makes Jess a truly exceptional tutor is her ability to break down complex ideas into clear, engaging, and meaningful content. She doesn’t just write well—she teaches others how to think like strong writers. Jess has a gift for meeting people where they are, offering thoughtful feedback, and helping them build confidence in their voice. Her approach is both encouraging and practical, which makes learning from her feel approachable and empowering.
One experience that stands out is how closely we partnered on content strategy. I would often come to Jess with campaign goals or audience insights, and she would transform them into compelling, human-centered stories that resonated deeply with our audience. Watching her process—and learning from it—made me a better communicator myself. She has a way of elevating not just the work, but the people around her.
Jess is, without a doubt, one of the best writers I know. More importantly, she’s an incredible teacher who genuinely invests in helping others grow.Jess has been an incredible help to my high school junior with essay writing. She is patient, encouraging, and skilled at helping students improve both their writing and their confidence. Her support has made a real difference, and I would highly recommend her.
