About Aidan
Hi! My name is Aidan, and I am 19 years old. I am a student of English Literature, Film Studies and Philosophy at the University of St Andrews. As a current undergrad, I have set my A Levels (and other school examinations) very recently, which, for me, involved a large amount of essay-writing and close reading (English, History and Theology) in both timed and coursework settings. I have also completed personal statements and university applications within the last two years. Why I would like to tutor part-time is as much for experience (as an educator-in-training) as for financial support throughout my studies. I am yet to be paid for my tutoring work, being a step I would now like to make, but have taught academia informally in the past with success. As a recipient of both effective tutoring, as well as in-class teaching methods at school, and ineffective tutoring, I can confidently say that there are correct and incorrect ways of educating a student, and I will strive to meet the criteria of the former in any teaching post.

My approach is down-to-earth and informal. I am responsive and easy to talk to, but, rest assured, am committed to educating you within my field/s. Depending on age/qualification, my methods can also be adequately demanding: there will be study games (ie. Kahoot!) as much as close analysis and essay practice with take-home assignments after each lesson in order to prep you for the next. I believe in the value of entertaining activities in order to engage students in subjects they are otherwise not inclined towards, but also the necessity for independent learning between sessions, without which development of essential skills for future exams will be stunted. I look forward to studying with you!
