About Nqobile
I became a surface pattern designer in 2020 when I utilised various resources to learn how to create repeat patterns, and then later turn them into physical and digital products. As an independent learner, I gained the skills, insight and intuition that gave me the tools to develop my art style.
Due to this I not only promote using surface pattern design to create beautiful art work but to express your voice and inner thoughts and ideas through utilising your intuition as you create. This can look like intuitively selecting colour palettes as a part of your skill set rather than rigidly following colour theory formulas.
That may sound a little woo woo. However personal experience has taught me, to spot my own inauthenticity when I review finished patterns. It is easy for me to tell apart something I put my all into vs something I slapped together without much thought. Every pattern you create has value, and will help you develop as a designer/artist while refining your own art style.

Lessons are tailored to you and what you already bring to the table. For example your interests, this will help us fast track your journey to finding your own style in designing repeat patterns.
Our main classes will be focused on your areas of interest that we discuss in our first lesson. As well as exploring mark making, research, sourcing inspiration (Pinterest is not the only way to gain inspiration), and many other areas that will affect your design process.
We will work utilising analog and digital techniques, with art supplies you already have (don’t disregard that ball point pen!). As well as programs such as Procreate, or Affinity designer (very cost effective compared to adobe) on iPad or computer.
