About Matthew
As a teacher for more than five years, I am always open with my students in terms of what they feel they are capable ofand their confidence level during lessons while maintaining expectations. When I teach, I expect students to come in ready to learn and grow, but understand the ebbs and flows of life. I will often ask them for feedback on how they are learning and what works, and like to incorporate questionnaires with my repeat students so I know what works for them. I also work to get to know their writing and their various pitfalls so I can instruct them more efficiently.

I begin with an analytical warm-up exercise that usually ranges from five to ten minutes, then ask students to write on a passage or reading that has been done on a certain text. I emphasize vocabulary and grammar before prompting a conversation with various discussion questions about the text, finishing the lesson with a few takeaways and future reading or writing assignments. I will have personal conversations with my students to help them relate the text or what they are learning to their daily lives, and my lessons are typically structured for anywhere from 7th grade to college level courses.
