About Hannah

I am a qualified financial advisor and investment generalist, holding a National Certificate in Wealth Management. My journey into teaching English began over a year ago on Palfish, but my passion for teaching was first sparked while helping my own children learn during the Covid-19 pandemic. I have an intrinsic love for the English language, and I bring personal experience to my teaching: I attended school in Germany for a year, learning German in a fully immersive environment. This first-hand experience helps me understand what it truly takes to learn a new language.

About the lesson

I provide confidence-boosting support for both children and adults. My approach is based on the principles of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), where new language items are introduced and practiced in realistic, meaningful contexts.

Instead of focusing on memorising rules, I encourage students to learn by doing — experimenting with the language in a supportive environment.

For young learners (ages 5–10), I focus on building strong foundations in sentence structure through fun, engaging activities. At this stage, children begin forming more complex sentences and develop an awareness of how words fit together. I create interactive lessons that make practice feel like play, so learners gain confidence while naturally developing their grammar and vocabulary.

For older children and teenagers (ages 11–17), I expand on this foundation by introducing figures of speech, idiomatic expressions, and more creative uses of language. This is when students begin to grasp abstract meanings and enjoy experimenting with metaphors, similes, and storytelling. I encourage trial and error, helping them learn from mistakes and see language as a creative tool for self-expression.

For adults, I adapt lessons to their personal goals — whether that’s conversational fluency, professional communication, or exam preparation. Adults often bring unique challenges, such as fear of making mistakes, so I focus on creating a safe, supportive space where practice feels purposeful and empowering.
Across all ages, I view language learning as a creative process that involves exploration, practice, and reflection. By guiding learners to actively use the language rather than just study it, I help them gain both skill and confidence.
