About Johan

Every day I go out of my way to learn something new about societies of the past and of today. Modern society can be very easy to find oneself feeling alienated and disconnected from, I'd like to shine some light on when and why things got to be the way they are today. It would make me very happy to get to help people develop and focus the passions they might already have in order to help them gain an understanding of social issues past and present. In addition to assistance in researching and understanding social studies, I can also leave you with many tips and tricks to improve your writing skills with, academic writing or otherwise.

I am a 23-year-old Sociology-Anthropology major at Towson University whose main passion in life, even after school, is learning about topics within and relating to social studies. I am looking to help people at the high school and undergraduate level understand complex social issues. I've tried my best to keep up to date on local, national, and international news throughout my adolescence and adulthood. Taking the plunge into world history, sociology, and economics, however, is what really began to add clarity to what has always felt like a world that gets more confusing by the day. I would like to assist people learning historical context for any and all aspects of their lives they would like to learn more about.

It is much easier to absorb and retain information when one is actually learning about what inspires or intrigues them, not just what they are told they should be interested in. I have a relaxed but involved teaching style where I am actively assisting you not only in understanding topics within the social sciences, but also leaving you with strategies to more easily retain information. The U.S. public school system does not do a good job of inspiring a love for learning, nor does it leave one with the skills necessary to do your own research or retain information. Whenever possible I will try to make up for this with the best strategies and resources at my disposal.

No matter what, my goal is to provide you with a space where learning can be fun. I like to learn and teach through discussion, although I can do most of the talking if you do prefer to hear me lecture on a topic. I will always do my best to come prepared with resources and information that will be relevant to whatever it is that you would like help understanding. I can also help support your writing, presentation, editing, or other skills within communications.

I can meet you at your home if it is within Towson or the surrounding area. I am also not far from the Towson Library as well as Towson University if you would prefer to meet up in a place such as those.
