About Eleni

My name is Eleni, and I bring over 19 years of experience in traditional Greek dance, with a special focus on Pontian Black Sea dances, as well as Cretan, Macedonian, and Thracian styles. I began teaching in middle school and have since guided dancers of all levels—both within the Greek community and beyond—with patience, clarity, and enthusiasm. My teaching style blends structured technique with cultural storytelling. I believe dance is more than movement—it's a way of preserving identity, building community, and expressing history. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer, I adapt my lessons to your pace, ensuring that each step is understood, felt, and connected to its cultural roots. Each class is well-organized, supportive, and designed to foster both confidence and precision. I take pride in creating a welcoming environment where students feel motivated to learn,

Hi! I'm Eleni, and I've been dancing for 19 years and teaching traditional Greek dance since middle school. As a tutor and instructor, I bring both deep cultural knowledge and a warm, accessible approach to every class I lead. Teaching Method & Techniques My goal is to help students not just learn the steps, but feel the spirit behind each dance. I break movements down slowly and clearly, often using counts, visual patterns, and regional music to help students connect rhythm with motion. I also provide historical and cultural context so dancers can understand where each dance comes from and why it's done the way it is. I focus especially on group connection and body awareness, since many Greek dances are performed in a line or circle and rely on unity and shared energy. For Pontian dances in particular, I teach the unique posture and drum-driven movements that define the style. A Typical Lesson Plan Warm-Up (5–10 mins): Light cardio and stretches to prepare the body Foundations (15 mins): Focus on footwork, posture, and rhythm New Material (20–30 mins): Learn or review a dance from a specific region (Pontian, Cretan, Thracian, Macedonian, etc.) Connection & Flow (15 mins): Practice in a group, add music, work on transitions and expression Cool Down/Q&A (5–10 mins): Gentle stretching, questions, and cultural insights Every lesson is tailored to the group’s experience level, whether it’s beginner, intermediate, or advanced. What Sets Me Apart I’m not just teaching dance—I’m passing on a living tradition. As someone deeply connected to Greek heritage, I approach dance as both a celebration and a responsibility. My long experience as a dancer and instructor allows me to adapt to different learning styles, and I strive to make everyone—from total beginners to experienced dancers—feel confident, included, and inspired. Who It’s For I teach all age groups and experience levels. My lessons are ideal for: Students curious about Greek culture or history Dancers preparing for performances or cultural showcases Greek diaspora members wanting to reconnect with their roots Anyone interested in movement, rhythm, and tradition Whether you’re joining as part of a cultural organization, school program, or just for fun, you’re welcome in my circle.
