My teaching method is to analyze where you are stuck on your current learning (in a course) by going back to previous concepts leading toward the topic of confusion, which is a way to revise the concepts from a previous topic and refresh the knowledge toward the topic the student is confused. On the other hand, for tutoring that introduces a new topic (first-time learning physics or first lecture in organic chemistry), I would go over the course content expectation through a brief line-up of what's upcoming to their learning, then start from the beginning, modeling by how I learned in their respective courses.
