I am a professional violinist and teacher, having graduated in 2014 from Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance. I believe that learning the violin is an experience that can enrich the student's life.

In my approach, I believe that to provide students with a secure technical basis is vital, as it is only through this that their musicality can be given full expression. I bring technical points to life through an approach that combines vivid analogies, relevant to each student, with clear and concise explanations. It is important that students understand the how and why of violin technique, so that they can teach themselves on the days without lessons. The practice room should be like a laboratory, experimenting with ideas, to produce high quality, musical playing.

I use traditional technique materials, such as Sevcik, Kreutzer and Dounis, alongside providing arrangements of songs or pieces requested by students. Recently, I have used arrangements of the Harry Potter and Hobbit themes to introduce students to syncopated rhythms and chromaticism in the left hand, for example.
As students become more advanced I prepare indiviualised booklets, which present relevant scales and practice methods, to streamline practice sessions, so making full use of practice time available. Recent booklets have covered ‘The Lark Ascending’ by Vaughn Williams, and Paganini’s 24th Caprice.
