CARETTA THURSTON, M.Ed. Online K–12 Tutor | ESL & World Languages Savannah Chatham County TUTORING PHILOSOPHY & APPROACH I provide interactive, student-centered online tutoring for K–12 learners, emphasizing language development, academic growth, and learner confidence. My approach is tailored to each student’s grade level, learning style, and goals, using a mix of digital tools, interactive exercises, and scaffolded instruction to make learning engaging, meaningful, and effective. I integrate Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) to develop practical language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, and I use task-based learning to reinforce understanding through real-world applications. Lessons incorporate gamification, multimedia tools, and collaborative exercises to keep students motivated, while metacognitive reflection encourages independent learning and progress tracking. TYPICAL ONLINE LESSON PLAN (60–75 minutes) Warm-Up & Check-In (5–10 min): Review prior lesson, discuss questions, and set objectives. Skill Focus (20–25 min): Targeted instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, or vocabulary using interactive tools. Application / Activity (20–25 min): Hands-on tasks, role-play, comprehension exercises, or creative projects aligned with the student’s grade level. Feedback & Reflection (5–10 min): Provide constructive feedback, highlight strengths, address challenges, and suggest practice strategies.
