About Alicia
My interest in tutoring comes as a natural extension of my value of education and my love of teaching. I have been fortunate enough to have held a number of varied positions within education. Bringing to tutoring my experience running the educational program Access all Areas, outreach work in Tanzania and three years classroom experience in the UK.
I am drawn to tutoring due to the unique ability to develop relationship with a student in a one to one learning environment. Enabling a deeper rapport and understanding that goes beyond the traditional bond of teacher and student.
My objective as a tutor is basic yet fundamental, to help the student reach their full potential. The ability to gain a greater understanding of a pupils learning style and personality helps me adjust and tailor my lesson plans accordingly. Creating lessons to fit a specific learning style enables me to keep a child engaged helping them enjoy the subject enabling them to reach their full potential.
I aim to create positive learning environment and equip students with effective learning habits and exam technique. Developing a comfortable learning environment is essential for the student to feel free to ask questions and express gaps in their knowledge, however basic. I want to enable students to understand their specific learning style, so they can adopt effective revision techniques going forward.
As most educators and parents know exam technique is essential to being successful in the exam hall. I aim to arm students with practical exam techniques that allow students to get down what they have learnt – and help prevent any avoidable mistakes.
I specialize in English from 4 – 18 years, alongside Essay Writing, Essay Structure, English Language, Poetry Analysis, Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, and Interview Technique & Skills. I studied at St George’s Ascot and Rugby School where I received an A* at GCSE and achieved 81% in my A level English Literature. Following this I went on to attain two degrees at the University of Manchester; American Studies (BA) and Visual Anthropology (MA).

I am very pleased to write this personal reference for Alicia, who I recommend without reservation. I have known Alicia since her early childhood; she is a highly intelligent and creative person, with a very warm, engaging and kind personality. Alicia has achieved great success academically with her dedication and focus and demonstrated unfailingly her passion and enthusiasm to work with children. She has worked with a wide age range of children, beginning when she herself was still at school working with teenagers facing a variety of challenges, and then after leaving school applied her focus to a six month nursery placement. Alicia continued with drive and commitment working with children on varied and complex educational projects in Manchester and Tanzania.
Alicia is a very positive person, quick thinking, and adaptable and will have sensible reactions in all circumstances. She is also an excellent communicator, a good listener, patient and able to explain concepts and ideas very clearly. Alicia’s educational and academic success, her integrity and personal attributes, all combined, will enable her to provide an exceptional tutoring experience and I wish Alicia every future success.View more recommendations
