About Marcelo

He has been teaching tango since 1994, and has taught and performed in Argentina, USA, Canada, Europe and Indonesia. Academically he’s taught Tango at institutions like the City of Rosario’ Ministry of Culture, and Rosario’s National Theatre School. In 1996 Marcelo made his first trip to Europe, where he taught and performed in Barcelona, Toulouse, London, Copenhagen, Berlin and Leipzig. In 1998, 1999, and 2000 Marcelo taught and performed in the Tango Festivals at Toulouse, France.

While in the San Francisco Bay Area, he keeps a busy schedule imparting group classes, workshops, talks about Tango, and private lessons. He goes to Buenos Aires several times a year to teach and perform at some of the most prominent Milongas, such as Salon Canning and Confitería Ideal. He continues studying the history of tango and its music, and while in Buenos Aires he takes classes with teachers such as Osvaldo and Coca Cartery, Carlos and Rosa Pérez, Néstor La Vitola, Blas Catrenau, Ruben Harymbat, Monica Paz, Enriqueta Kleinman, Ana Maria Shapira , Muma and Alicia Pons.

About the lesson

Born in Argentina. Through his family and the community that saw his upbringing, He have been intimately involved with Tango all his life. An Argentine Tango dancer, choreographer and instructor for over 25 years. He's love for Tango dancing and tango music, particularly from the 1930’s through the 1940’s, is undeniable when you meet him. Marcelo is a milonguero.

As Tango instructor, he makes emphasis on musicality and the connection of dance partners to each other and the music; he stresses that Tango is a social dance framed by a specific set of values that are expressed through a series of codes of etiquette; and he encourages and promotes his students ability to improvise on the dance floor. After the training you receive in his classes dancing becomes an easy game to play. With these elements Marcelo creates a unique atmosphere through which his students can experience what a Milonga in Buenos Aires is like.Class

Our Teaching Philosophy and Method

It only makes sense to learn Tango by learning simultaneously all its facets: moves, musicality, connection to the partner, social environment, history and culture, at the same time. Any fragmentation of Tango in the process of teaching leads to misinterpretations.

Our method is integral.
We begin with the posture. It is comfortable, relaxed, and functional in relation to dancing embracing and embraced by a partner.
During the class we use a set of exercises to develop the moves and responses that you need to have in your body, in your muscle memory to be able to move harmonically with a partner in the situation of dancing at a milonga. These moves are connected to music.
We practice those exercises at the beginning of every class.
The moves would not be integrated in you muscle memory without repeating them a few times at every class or practice for a period of time.
When we practice these exercises in a class, our objective is not just to use them in that class, but to gradually incorporate them in your muscle memory, so they are available in your muscle memory for the classes you’ll take later.

Cadence:
We show you how Tango music and dance are intrinsically related.
The exercises and moves that we do in class are always explained in relation to the music.

After the initial exercises we give each student a task related to his or her experience and possibilities.

Line of dance:
We teach you to move on the line of dance from your very first class. You cannot really dance Tango without following the line of dance. Teaching Tango without teaching the line of dance is like teaching to drive in a parking lot, and never explain the basic rules of streets and highways.

Connection to the partner:
We work this aspect of Tango showing that what keeps the couple together is the commitment of both partners to move as a couple. We show what you are supposed to focus on to achieve that.

Lead and follow:
We lead and follow you to explain it without ambiguity. Leaders ought to learn to follow to understand how to lead.

Basic elements:
We teach you what you must know to dance Tango as a good dancer in the Buenos Aires’ milongas.
