About Benjamin
I am passionate about the study of Classical Greek and its contemporary world since it has taught me to strip words and ideas that I had taken for granted down to their first principles. Whether it be the formation of Western political systems, the religious idea of holiness or the conception of love, the ancient Greeks began serious academic discussion. The key to unlocking these discussions is through the focused study of their language. Aside from Classical Greek, I am a proud Springboks supporter and am currently preparing for a marathon (inspired of course by Pheidippides himself).

The aim of my lessons is to build up linguistic competence in Classical Greek. This consists of a methodical progression through OCR's specified syllabus (Greek to GCSE [vols. 1 and 2] and Greek Beyond GCSE). In each lesson we will consider a grammatical aspect of Classical Greek (e.g. Indirect statement, Middle voice and deponent verbs etc.), working through examples set by the accompanying textbooks and through unadapted examples I will provide from original texts. The best way to learn the workings of grammar, unsurprisingly, is to see them at play in the writings of ancient authors. I am unable to support students in preparing for set-text work for these exams but am qualified to help them prepare for the language component (50% at GCSE and A-level). My lessons are for those preparing for their GCSE and A-level exams or who want to begin reading Greek for fun! I am a final-year Classics undergraduate student at Durham University, having specialised in Ancient Greek literature and philosophy. In my first year of university, I took classes in Greek Prose composition as an extension of grammatical study accomplished at GCSE and A-level standard. In my second and third year I took classes in literature, studying the works of Sophocles, Euripides, Plato and Homer.
