About Henry

I am a Bristol based musician and educator with a First Class Honours degree in Professional Musicianship and nearly a decade's worth of experience in the music industry. I have received expert tuition from tutors such as Kieron Pepper (The Prodigy), Vinnie Lammi (The Spice Girls), Darren Beckett (Brandon Flowers) and Pat Garvey (David Cross) as well as extracurricular private instruction from Ralph Rolle (Nile Rogers & Chic), Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai), Dave Elitch (The Mars Volta) and Gregory Hutchinson (Betty Carter). I play a variety of musical styles ranging from Rock and Pop to Jazz, Reggae, Latin and Avant-Garde styles either in my own band or freelancing for other artists. I have recorded at some of the country's top studios such as Real World, J&J Bristol and Brighton Electric with producers such as Dan Carey (Grimes) and John Parish (PJ Harvey). I have also toured up and down the country multiple times, playing spaces ranging from small pubs to 2000+ capacity venues as well as festivals such as Green Man and End of the Road.

About the lesson

With nearly a decade's worth of experience in the music industry, three years teaching experience and an infectious passion for music, you can be sure that you'll always leave my lessons feeling inspired with new knowledge you'll be eager to get stuck into! Whoever you are, whatever you want to work on or whichever level you are at, each lesson will be tailored to you and your goals with the fundamental objective remaining the same: nurturing your curiosity and passion for music! If you're a beginner, I simply want to get you playing whatever interests you and get you playing along to your favourite songs. I'm not the sort of teacher to start you off on technique and gruelling exercises, I want to show you how amazing the drums are and get you playing music and having fun, because that's what it's all about right! For the more experienced players, I can gear you towards whatever your goals are and can show you what you need to know, be it a style you haven't explored, practice methods, advanced techniques and concepts, improvisation, groove and fill builders, coordination challenges, you name it! As well as all the fun stuff, I can also gear you towards any graded performances and auditions you might have coming up or help you address any aches/pains or discomfort you may feel at the instrument, as well as helping you to overcome any mental barriers you may be facing at the moment.

Henry helped me out with so much as a beginner drummer. Ranging from technical problems and how to fix them, to learning songs that I had trouble with. I have not had many lessons with Henry but from the ones I had, I can't recommend him enough.

Henry is a fantastic tutor. He understands how to get our 9 year old to be excited about learning. It’s great to hear them talking about beats and how they work and how to make them.

Very talented teacher - I had been playing guitar but hadn’t sat behind a kit once. Despite this, in the first lesson I was already getting my head round different time signatures and Radiohead songs thanks to the way he explained things.

Having known Henry since he was 13 (and having seen him perform countless times), his talent and passion for drums is astounding. His kind and thoughtful nature gives him just the right temperament for tutoring. I would 100% recommend him for someone looking to learn from the best that the music scene has to offer!
