About Janet
My name is Janet Carmichael, and I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education and English from Notre Dame College and a Master of Arts Degree in English from Cleveland State University. I taught high school English (grammar, literature, and writing) for eight years. As a high school teacher, I also taught courses in Analytical Reading/Critical Thinking, Journalism, and Independent Study. I taught English on the community college level for four years (grammar, literature, and writing). As a college instructor, I also taught a course in Study Skills. During my years as a high school teacher and college instructor, I have also learned a great deal about history. I believe that, to be a good literature teacher, it is important to understand the times in which a literary work is created. As such, I feel very comfortable in tutoring both English and history. In addition to traditional academics, I have over eight years of experience working with adult learners in positions that I have held in corporate education and staff development.

Because of my previous teaching experiences, I am qualified to teach all components of English instruction: grammar, literature, reading, and writing. I have taught literature courses in Greek/Roman/Norse Mythology, Shakespeare, American Literature, World Literature, and British Literature, including the corresponding history involved in the creation of each. I have also taught such genres as Science Fiction, Fantasy, Supernatural Literature, and Poetry. I have taught sentence, paragraph, and essay composition, and I actually enjoy teaching English grammar. My teaching methodology is to accommodate my teaching style to my student's needs.
