About Robin

At EMC, we use the performing arts as a tool to teach life lessons. We teach young people the value of discipline, goal-setting and perseverance. We walk alongside our students, offering challenging lesson plans, unforgettable performance opportunities, caring instructors and individualized plans for success.

While our program is known for training technically proficient and versatile artists, we are most proud of the poised and prepared young adults that graduate from our program each year.

The way you do “anything” is the way you do “everything”. Teaching children to take the time to perfect the small details of their art produces young adults who are accountable for and take pride in their work.

Coming from a strict classical ballet program myself, I learned to set the bar high for my students, staff and myself. This is one of the values that sets us apart from other programs.

EMC Performing Arts Studio opened it's doors in 1992 in Baltimore City. Over the past 25 years, we have steadily earned the trust of hundreds and hundreds of families who choose us for dance, music, theater and gymnastics lessons.

We employ approximately 30 instructors and assistant instructors who hold degrees in their field, have professional working experience, and/or are trained by EMC Performing Arts Studio. Individual staff biogarphies can be found on our websire: danceEMC.com

About the lesson

We invite interested families to visit our studio, participate in a free trail class, a tour of our facility and sit down for a personal consultation. We want to learn about your child and help you find the best class to suit your needs.

Our instructors have worked with all kinds of students, ranging from the recreational minded, to those seeking a professional career in the arts. We work with families to find the right instructor and program to match the goals of the student.

Not all studios are created equally. It is essential that you visit, try a class, learn the philosophy of the owner and see if it is in line with your own values. Also, look at the graduates. What are they doing with themselves since leaving the studio? This is an excellent indication of how a studio prepares and guides it's students for "the real world".

The Fall Tour is the most logistically challenging of all the events we do throughout the year at EMC. It requires rearranging the schedules of so many people, many of whom are coming to EMC for their first day of classes on this day. It requires dismantling the gym and still running gym classes with less equipment. It required rehearsing a band full of musicians living in three different states, while juggling football schedules, egos, and hormones. It required fitting 50 dancers on a tiny dance floor on asphalt while praying it wouldn’t rain. It’s a bear!

I started my day all wound up and worried. But then something magical happened and it continued through the day. I stopped in to the studio and saw almost everyone wearing an EMC logo shirt. They were my TEAM. They were on the job. The studio was hopping, but it was under control and people were smiling. I went upstairs, worried about something, and Miss Amanda and Miss Ciara were wearing the logo, running a rehearsal full of impeccably primped little bun heads. The Hip Hop Crew was doing their thing, with enthusiasm. Miss Missy was handling the front desk like a champ. Miss Allison had the BJX running through their set in the Black Box. Everywhere I looked, logos and smiles.

As I walked over to the fest, Mr. Wally and my sons had set the whole operation set up. Brochures with logos were smiling at me everywhere I turned. Familiar faces from the community stopped by to chat or wave, drawn to the EMC Performing Arts Studio booth. The logo beckoned them, welcomed them.

The magic continued when the parade of EMC performers descended upon the fest. Here they came, smiling, logo-wearing, helpful, organized and so comforting. Class Moms were at the top of their game. Dancers were focused on the task at hand. Miss Ciara, Miss Amanda, Miss Katie, Miss Randi and Miss Ebony put their game face on and ran the show. The performances were impressive and the audience was pleased.

Off to the Main Stage… I looked around and was so proud to see our logo everywhere! It felt like a giant hug from all these families all around me who are cheering on the EMC vision. It meant a lot to me to have all of you there to support the BJX. I really mean that.

Then the “Spontaneous Crowd Dance” and the EMC logos come to life. The audience LOVED watching these kids and adults of all ages celebrate the end of a successful day. The Fest organizer called me later that night to say how pleased they were with the EMC presence at the event. That was very reassuring.

I want to thank each and every one of you for being a part of this with me. You are all essential elements in the big picture. Thank you all for your trust, your enthusiasm, your smiles and your “logo hugs”.
