About Jennifer

I am the clarinettist for the Nevis Ensemble in Glasgow and also passionate about musical education. My previous role was Clarinet Teaching Artist for In Harmony Opera North, and I have taught for Priory Farm Music Camp and Windstruments Summer Schools. Whilst at the University of Cincinnati I was educated in teaching fundamental clarinet technique, and this is my specialism. I am delighted to work with both children and adult learners.

About the lesson

An enthusiastic teacher and performer, I have completed a Master of Music degree at RWCMD and Bachelor of Music at University of Birmingham during which time I was also educated abroad at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, U.S.A. My teaching philosophy involves equal focus on musical and technical elements of clarinet playing in lessons. I believe that it is important to build good instrumental technique from the beginning of the learning process in order to enable the student to make a beautiful sound, as this will enable them to get the most pleasure out of their music making. Most importantly, though, music-making should be fun at any level, and I view it as my job to inspire the student and make the learning process enjoyable! I have worked for the Opera North In Harmony programme, and am now a musician for the Nevis Ensemble.

Jennifer put me at ease immediately and having assessed my level I soon began to improve and looked forward immensely to my lessons. I can offer 45 minute or 1 hour lessons and my rate for 45 minutes is £25.50. I will often recommend that beginners have 45 minute lessons. I am hoping to offer small group lessons at a significantly reduced rate, so if you are interested please do get in touch and I will put you on the wait list!
