When it comes to teaching, I like to make sure that I am catering to your individual needs and that's why each lesson is unique and bespoke to you - just tell me the topic or area you wish to focus on and I will provide the lesson plan, teaching materials and knowledge. I previously taught GCSE English Literature and Language, A-Level English Literature and Language and 11+ English with a leading tuition company based in Liverpool and have tutored students between the ages of 10 and 19. A typical lesson usually focuses on one specific part of a syllabus, e.g. a particular poem from a GCSE Literature anthology or a particular style of writing. I will always ask you prior to the session if there is a specific topic or area that you would like to focus on. I begin with a short starter activity to get you thinking and from there onwards I guide you through the topic. This may include: analysing texts, making character profiles, connecting quotes with themes, short writing or comprehension tasks, match up games and timed questions. I like to mark your work with you, talking through what you did well and where you went wrong. When I am going through your work with you, I like to use the exam board mark schemes, highlighting the different requirements needed for you to reach your target grade.
I am a First Class English Literature graduate from the Wirral. I am currently working as a Library Assistant and have a year's experience of tutoring 11+, GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language. I have a track record of academic excellence, most recently being awarded the Derek Elders Prize for achieving the highest overall mark on my degree programme. When it comes to tutoring, I have taught many students, of varying abilities, some in one-on-one lessons and some in group sessions. A lot of students who I have tutored were, at first, lacking confidence in their ability and struggling with much of the content of their syllabus. Yet after several session I saw their confidence grow, their understanding improve greatly and their grades increase. Seeing students come on in leaps and bounds, developing in confidence and achieving their target grades is what makes tutoring so rewarding for me. In addition to my degree, I have a grade A in A-Level English, A* in GCSE English Language and A in GCSE English Literature, demonstrating my excellent understanding of how the exam systems work.
I charge £10 an hour for primary school level and 11+ English lessons and £12 an hour for secondary school level including GCSE and A-Level.
