About Quentin
As an aspiring teacher, I have always had a passion for teaching. This is because I love the subjects which I teach, especially talking about them. Through this I not only share the expertise I have, but also always learn something new from my pupils. As a tutor, I am always therefore passionate about bringing everything I have to the table and help my pupils as much as I can, and hope to learn something from the process for myself too!
I also enjoy the rewarding aspect of tutoring, and have volunteered many times in teaching roles in the primary school I used to attend, as well as with the Whitgift Masterclasses program. I truly believe that with the right mindset and help, anyone can succeed academically - it is much more a matter of hard work than natural talent.
I have now accumulated 2 years of tutoring experience across a wide range of subjects, and would love to continue adding to this experience alongside my studies at UCL!
My qualifications are as follows:
- Predicted First Class Degree in English Language and Literature at University College London (UCL).
- 43 points in International Baccalaureate (IB) with 4 HL subjects. 7776 HL in Maths AA, History, Philosophy, and English Literature. 76 in SL Physics and Mandarin Chinese. A in Extended Essay in English Literature.
- Finalist in NCH Essay Competition in English Literature
- GCSE: Grade 9's in English Language, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Religious Studies, Mandarin Chinese, and French.
- A in OCR FMSQ Additional Mathematics
- Passed DELF C1 Qualification in French.

English is often thought to be a subject based on natural talent, but I firmly believe that with the right amount of help and work, anyone can succeed in doing well for exams. I will help students by doing what studying literature is all about: discussing texts for their exams, or in preparation for unseen poetry exams in close detail and performing close analysis on certain passages. This will not only increase your knowledge of the text, but will develop your skills in tackling any text.
I am currently at the end of my 1st year studying English Language and Literature at University College London (UCL). My most recent tutorial essay received 71/80 marks, earning me a First Class grade. My last four essays have all been at the level of first. I achieved a grade 6 in IB HL English Literature, and grade 9's in GCSE English Literature and English Language. I was also selected as a Finalist in the 2022 NCH Essay Competition in the English Section.
I have taught English at primary school level for a few months, and have over 2 years of general tutoring experience in related subjects, most notably Religious Studies (RS).
My lessons are typically 1h long.
I can teach English from any level up to A-level or IB, and for any age.
I can teach any text, but have special expertise on the following:
- Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
- Othello by William Shakespeare
- Paradise Lost by John Milton
- Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
- Beloved by Toni Morrison
- The Prelude by William Wordsworth
- The Waste Land and other poems by T.S Eliot
- Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
- Angels in America by Tony Kushner
- Oedipus Rex by Sophocles
- The Knight's Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer
- The Wife of Bath's Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer
- Hero and Leander by Christopher Marlowe
- Beowulf
- Gawain and the Green Knight
- Going to Meet the Man by James Baldwin
- A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
- The Rape of the Lock by Alexander Pope
