About Thando

I am a native speaker of English, but I can also manage well in Dutch. I have been a freelance English teacher for the past 5 years. Four years ago I obtained my TEFL certificate (teaching English as a foreign language). During my time as a teacher in Berlin, I taught both one-on-one and group lessons. Nowadays I teach via webcam. I have a background in social sciences and drama.

About the lesson

Whether you are just starting your language journey or only need a few tips and tricks to take your speaking skills to the next level, my lessons are suitable for students at any stage. I also cater for those looking for Business English or conversational courses. I like to create an easy, fun and open environment with you. In the lessons, we take your needs and interests and I use materials that are relevant to you, because you learn faster when you can connect with the things you really like. Learning English is not as scary as it seems. During our lessons together, you will gain a better understanding of the essential grammatical building blocks you need to be fluent in English. I like to use conversational exercises, videos, books, current news and music to practice with you. This combination will get you listening, reading, writing and especially speaking English in a confident, more natural way.

I actually had a lot of fun in my lessons with Thando! The interactive style of lessons through using games and activities made learning a new language much less intimidating. Thando's warm energy puts you at ease, and you are not afraid to make mistakes.

Lessons with Thando are never boring. She is a very empathetic teacher that makes sure that her lesson materials fit the student and are relevant to their lives. I think she always gives 100% and goes the extra mile for her students. She's a real language lover and it shows; she is both capable and enthousiastic when she explains grammar or vocabulary. Besides, she's got broad interests and brings her experience as a theater maker to the table to lively up lessons with fun exercises and games. I can recommend her wholeheartedly.
