About Madeleine
Hello! I am an Art History and Creative Writing graduate and I have faith in the power of education. I know what it is like to sit amongst your peers and feel as if you're not achieving as much as them, not progressing as fast as them. I also know what it feels like to overcome these obstacles and to have a little more confidence in your abilities. It takes work and dedication but it also takes self-belief.
Some of us learn differently. At University I was a little quiet in my lectures and I felt that because a select few around me were constantly able to debate and answer on the spot, I must have been failing. I wasn't.
My University followed the Oxbridge model of tutorials in that we were offered one hour 1:1 tutorials every week with our module professor. What I learnt was I excelled in these 1:1 tutorials. I found them far, far more engaging than large class discussions because the professor and I had 50 minutes to discuss together a painting, a period or a piece of my own work in detail. I then began really excelling in my subject, sometimes still a little quiet in class, but hey, I was achieving firsts in my written exams, essays and oral presentations.
I want to be able to give that to you as well. In our tutorials I want to build your confidence in art history as well as bolster your knowledge of the subject. Both go hand in hand in helping you achieve what you are absolutely capable of achieving.

Private tutoring is a very different experience to learning in a classroom. Our sessions would be first and foremost tailored to you and what you would like to revise, learn or simply talk about.
Dependent on what you're looking for, our sessions can be more informal and conversational, they can be pre-planned so that you can take detailed notes, or they can be a mixture of the two. I don't want to simply dictate to you but I also want you to learn! I believe learning through engagement and conversation is the best way to make that learning stick. That, and use of visual aids as they can help you connect the unfamiliar to the familiar.
I was an English teacher in Malaysia for a year teaching up to 30 students between the ages of 11 to 18. I held private tutoring sessions for some of those students and so I have a good basis of experience in tutoring and planning lessons.
My lessons are for all ages and levels, from those at school or college to those who wish to add some depth to their knowledge on the history of art.
My lessons will be an hour long.

Madeleine tutored me while I was doing my A-level in art history. She really helped me to look at paintings and see them as they really are - without all the technical jargon that sometimes makes art a bit inaccessible. She kept her lessons light and fun and was very warm and friendly. It was conversational but productive. She really paid attention to what I needed help with from one lesson to the next.
A very knowledgeable and friendly teacher. Clearly cares about Art History and your own journey within the subject. Certainly felt more confident by the end of my tuition. Would highly recommend!
