About Marco

Marco Conti Bellocchi (b. 2003) is an Italian
clarinetist. He is currently Principal Clarinet and
Clarinet Teacher of the Fujairah Philharmonic
Orchestra (UAE).
He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees
with the highest honors at the Conservatorio “A.
Corelli” in Messina, under the tutelage of Giuseppe F.
Corpina.
As part of his Master’s studies, he joined the Erasmus
Programme, studying at the Conservatorium van
Amsterdam (2023-24) with Arno Piters and at the
Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo
(2024-25) in Porto with Nuno Pinto and António Saiote.
He further refined his orchestral preparation through a
professional traineeship with Jože Kotar at the
Akademija za glasbo (2025-26) in Ljubljana.
Alongside his formal training, he has gained additional guidance in masterclasses with
acclaimed international clarinetists such as Philippe Berrod, Calogero Palermo, Roeland
Hendrikx, Eric Hoeprich, Giovanni Punzi, Patrick Messina, Giuseppe Balbi, Nele
Delafonteyne, and Pascal Moraguès.
At the age of seventeen, his orchestral career began with the Massimo Youth Orchestra
of Palermo Opera House. He later held leading roles as principal clarinet of the National
Orchestra of Italian Conservatories.
In 2024, he marked a decisive step in his orchestral career by being admitted, after
successful audition, as a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester for its spring
and summer tours, as well as of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra,
Teatro alla Scala Academy in Milan and the Wiener Festspiele Academy Orchestra in
Vienna. He was further selected for the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) for
its 2026 summer tour and for the Grafenegg Festival Orchestra, confirming his
presence among the most distinguished young orchestral musicians of his generation.
He was invited as guest principal clarinet with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra,
the Tuscany Chamber Orchestra (ORT), and the Orchestra of Teatro La Fenice. In
2025, Marco was appointed as Co-Principal Clarinet at the State Opera Stara Zagora, in
Bulgaria, following a successful audition. Six months later, he returned to Italy after
winning a further audition to join the clarinet section of the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples
for the 2025-26 season. At the beginning of 2026, before leaving Europe, he also won the
audition for a permanent position as Principal Clarinet of the Friuli Venezia Giulia
Regional Orchestra (FVGO).
Under the baton of legendary conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Ingo Metzmacher,
Christian Blex, Holly Choe, Ion Marin, Diego Matheuz, Andris Poga, Donato Renzetti
and Alessandro Cadario, Marco has appeared at the world's most renowned festivals,
including the Salzburger Festspiele, Berliner Festspiele, Rheingau Musik Festival,
Bolzano Festival Bozen, and the Nervi International Ballet Festival.
As a soloist, he has performed Crusell’s Clarinet Concerto Op. 5 No. 2 at the Palacultura
in Messina; Artie Shaw’s Clarinet Concerto with the “G. Luporini Philharmonic” in
Torgiano and with the National Wind Orchestra of Italy, among others.
Conti Bellocchi has received recognition in more than ten international clarinet
competitions, including Second Prize at the 2025 Silverstein Clarinet Contest, Second
Prize at the Mercadante Clarinet Competition, and Prize winner at the Zac Ligature
Competition, Caunes-Minervois Clarinet Competition, and the Vallo della Lucania
Clarinet Competition.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

My love for music started when I was a kid, but it really clicked the moment I first heard the clarinet. I fell in love with its warm, singing voice—it can sound so deeply emotional one minute and full of energy the next. That hooked me for good.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Classical masterpieces, especially late-Romantic stuff and chamber music. Brahms’s Clarinet Quintet or Mahler symphonies are things I can listen to on repeat forever. Every single time I hear them, I catch some subtle detail I missed before.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most exciting lessons I give are about bridging the gap between playing notes cleanly and actually making music. For advanced players, we take standard pieces like the Mozart or Copland concertos and dig deep into phrasing, breathing, and storytelling so they can find their own unique voice.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Every instrument has its struggles, but the violin and the clarinet are definitely up there. For the clarinet, it's all about breath control, keeping a rock-solid embouchure, and getting the reed to cooperate. Making the sound smooth across every single register while playing with real dynamics takes years of intense physical and mental work.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Patience, really listening to what you play, and consistency. Talent gives you a head start, but smart, focused daily practice and genuine curiosity are what actually take you from being decent to being great.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

First, Mozart, just to ask him what was going through his head when he wrote the Clarinet Concerto for Stadler. Second, Leonard Bernstein, because his energy and way of talking about music would make for an unforgettable night. And third, Benny Goodman, so we could chat over a drink about crossing over from classical precision to jazz improvisation.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Back when I was playing in international youth orchestras like the EUYO, we were deep into rehearsals right before a major concert tour. The conductor suddenly stopped the whole massive orchestra and made just the clarinet section play this one tiny, exposed transition alone. The pressure was insane, but nailing it together with musicians from all over Europe was an unforgettable feeling.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I don't just teach the instrument; I focus on the person behind it. I adapt completely to each student's personality and goals. Whether we're fixing a stubborn technical issue with a fun exercise or building up someone's confidence before an audition, I bring my real-world orchestra experience and a relaxed, supportive vibe to every lesson.
