About Sharon
I have first-hand experience with how difficult and isolating the prerequisite courses are for medical school, as well as 3 years of experience tutoring organic chemistry and general chemistry to fellow pre-med students, both in a private and group setting (with all private students receiving A’s in the course). Navigating all these weed-out premed courses by yourself is not easy, and I always wished I had someone that I could ask my questions and could give me tried-and-true advice, rather than having to go through it alone. Looking forward to working with you and providing some academic and moral support!

I know how hit-or-miss tutors tend to be, as I myself have always struggled to find a tutor that could teach me in a way that I would understand and give me more than just the bare minimum to pass the class, which is why I don’t believe a one-size-fits-all approach works for pre-med subject tutoring. I provide personalized lesson plans and essentially take the class along with my students, since every professor is different and requires an individual approach. I have extensive and comprehensive notes for organic chemistry that I put together over the last 3 years after working with students taking a number of different organic chem classes, which help dumb down the information for the lay reader and contains tips & tricks and shortcuts for problem solving.

I’m a second degree premed student that attended Sharon’s organic chem group tutoring at Hunter college when we had a mid-year switch in professors and everyone failed the first exam. She basically became our surrogate professor, and most of us didn’t understand anything that was going on in class until she taught it to us from scratch. With all the uncertainty of that semester (having to adjust to the new professor), she made the transition seamless and I was honestly surprised with how in sync she was with the class even though she’d never taken it. When I first came to tutoring I thought she was a grad student or something, because she was so confident and enthusiastic, and somehow managed a room of 30 people and still didn’t miss a beat and made sure no one felt left out. She has such a way with words and such patience, and I think I speak for everyone when I say I really enjoyed coming to her sessions - they weren’t just informative but honestly really fun. She made such a dry subject come to life and got all 30 of us to engage with her and with each other, which is something that most of our professors (with PhD’s) can’t manage to do. I owe my A in the class to her!
