About Melissa
I'm 45 years old and have been teaching for 22 years. I've taught in the United States and Great Britain (London for 2 years) Teaching is something I love to do which is why it's my life-long career. I'm also a poet. My first book came out this past fall. I hold an MFA in poetry and an MA in secondary education with a specialization in English literature. I believe through creative methods, humor and patience, all students can learn and succeed. If the teacher establishes a bond with her student(s) and the student knows she believes them, understanding the work needed to be completed will be done willingly.

I specialize in grades 7-12. My lessons are creative and geared towards students learning to critically think. This occurs through lessons that start with an objective centered around a skill. The lesson moves forward with a "do now" based on real life experience. Then, the essence of the lesson is explained and modeled before the student moves into focusing and working on the task at-hand.
