My approach to teaching is to engage and involve the student as much as possible. Rather than stating facts, dates, and timelines of events to be memorized, my aim is to get the student to visualize the scene, to put themselves there, to imagine the sounds and smells. I believe this goes a long way to not only help the student to remember the information, but to also become passionate about it.
