About Maya
Hi there! I am a high school junior, a dedicated honors student, and someone who genuinely loves the power of good writing. Because I am currently navigating advanced, high-level high school coursework, I am completely immersed in modern English rubrics. I know exactly what teachers are looking for when they grade essays, analytical responses, and reading comprehension assignments.
My goal is to make English less intimidating and much more rewarding for middle schoolers and early high school students. I understand that analyzing literature or staring at a completely blank screen trying to write an introductory paragraph can feel overwhelming. Because I am an upperclassman peer rather than a strict adult teacher, I offer a comfortable, low-pressure environment. Students feel safe asking questions, making mistakes, and discovering their unique writing voice.
I have spent my high school career mastering the art of the structured essay and active reading analysis. Now, I want to share those exact tools, organization hacks, and confidence-boosting habits with younger students to help them raise their grades and reduce their homework stress!

English and writing shouldn't feel like a guessing game. Because I am an active high school honors student, I know exactly what modern rubrics look like and how teachers grade. I don't just point out mistakes—I work side-by-side with students to show them how to build stronger reading and writing habits.
My online lessons are tailored to what the student needs that week, usually focusing on three core areas:
1. Deconstructing the Essay (Brainstorming & Outlining): The hardest part of writing is starting. I teach students how to break down a prompt, formulate a strong thesis statement, and build a solid outline before they ever start typing a paragraph.
2. Drafting & Polishing (Editing & Flow): We look at how to properly introduce textual evidence, use transition words, and cut out repetitive language. I show students how to self-edit so their writing sounds mature and clear.
3. Active Reading & Comprehension: Staring at a page without understanding it is frustrating. I teach simple annotation methods, how to spot symbolism, and how to summarize chapters so students feel confident participating in class discussions.
