About Subhashini
I'm an Indian classical dancer, and have been exploring the world of movement in different ways. I began learning Bharatanatyam when I was five, and then never stopped! Went on to get certification in Dance theory and practice, do an acclaimed Erasmus master's in Dance Anthropology called Choreomundus, work in the research department of one of the most prestigious dance institutions in India, practice and perform with some of the best dance groups and teachers in Chennai, and now, pursue a PhD in dance! I also do some yoga and contemporary dance. Passion, perhaps, would be an understatement for my commitment to movement practices, and with the several years of experience in teaching and training, I have been fortunate to be continually associated with doing what I love. Besides dancing, I also have multiple degrees in literature, and write poetry :)

My teaching style isn't just one method. I've been working with children and adults for many years now, and mold my approach accordingly with patience and regularity. A typical class will begin with warm-up, foundational steps, some exploration of storytelling and gestures, theory and history snippets, a choreographic exploration, and cooling down exercises. Having also studied anthropology of dance, and being a performer, I enjoy working with an in-depth knowledge of the history of the art form and making it contemporary for learners, with good amounts of practice, culture, and exposure thrown in. I have a set syllabus that I work with and the lessons are anywhere between 45 minutes and 90 minutes, depending on the level. Absolutely love teaching all ages starting from 6 years. Some of my students have become professionals, and some still practice part-time and thoroughly enjoy dancing. After all, in the end, it all is about the joy of movement! :)
