Book guitar lessons with expert teachers

The first lessons for someone starting out cover guitar anatomy and basic playing techniques.

• Parts of the instrument: Know the nut and other essential parts to discuss technique.
• Open string names: Memorise standard tuning names to understand chord diagrams.
• Fretting technique: Keep thumb placement behind the fretboard while fingers stay perpendicular.
• Basic strumming: Hold a plectrum between your thumb and strum across the strings with fluid arm movement.

These four fundamentals prepare beginners for learning chords within a short timeframe.

Guitar lessons in Windaroo typically cost around $37/h for a 60-minute lesson.

The cost varies based on multiple criteria:

• The learner's experience (intermediate, or primary level)
• The instructor's experience (degrees and certifications)
• The format chosen (60-minute sessions, fortnightly)
• The teaching format (in-person or remote)

Many instructors provide an introductory class at no charge so you can see if it's the right fit before committing.

Also called the 80-20 principle, this concept shows that targeted effort yields disproportionate results.

Apply this by targeting specific challenges that improve overall playing.

Examples of high-impact practice:

• Clean chord changes between common chords like G-C-D or E-A-B
• Even tempo control using rhythmic exercises
• Mastering basic scales in one position first
• Recognising intervals to improve musicality

This approach reduces frustration by prioritising techniques that unlock the most songs.
