Find a Psychology Tutor in Box Hill

Psychologists group learning into classical conditioning, operant conditioning, observational learning, and insight learning.

• Classical conditioning links a neutral stimulus to an automatic response. Think of Pavlov's dogs, who learned to drool at the sound of a bell.
• Operant conditioning shapes behaviour through rewards and punishments. Praising effort makes students more likely to try again.
• Observational learning occurs by modelling someone else's actions. Bandura's Bobo doll study showed kids imitate aggressive models.
• Insight learning is that flash of clarity when a solution clicks into place. Köhler's chimps stacking boxes to reach bananas is a classic case.

Understanding these types helps tutors tailor lessons to how each student naturally absorbs information.

This rate can vary depending on several factors:

• The student's level (high school, undergraduate, or postgraduate)
• Your tutor's background (years of teaching, degrees held)
• How long and how often you meet (single lessons vs bundled packages)
• Lesson format (online, in-home, or at the tutor's location)

Many tutors offer discounted rates for regular bookings, which can lower your overall cost.

Psychologists work to describe, explain, predict, and ultimately guide mental processes and actions.

• Describe — Researchers observe and document behaviour without interpretation.
• Explain — Next comes finding the causes behind the pattern.
• Predict — With explanations, psychologists forecast future behaviour.
• Control — Therapies and interventions stem from this goal.

Whether researching memory or treating anxiety, psychologists cycle through these objectives.
