About Riya
I am 21 years old and I have just finished University, obtaining a Bachelors of Arts in Economics from the University of Manchester. The degree classification is unconfirmed but will be either a high 2:1 or a 1st!
I've worked with primary school students with reading and comprehension as well as maths.
I also tutored a GCSE student with additional Chemistry, allowing her to achieve a B, which was higher than her predicted grade.
I worked as a tutor in my secondary school whilst learning A Level maths, and also helped tutor an A Level student during university.
I have also volunteered abroad, in 2019, teaching a school how to play instruments such as the ukulele- which I thouroughly enjoyed. I was able to work with different kinds of students, and adapted my approach to help them learn.
I also tutored another student (predicted a D) to achieve a C, in History and this was done over Skype.
Both students enjoyed being tutored by me at school (and at home) and were extremely pleased with the outcome of our hard work and dedication. I managed to tutor these students whilst sitting my own GCSEs and I managed to achieve a grade 8 in GCSE maths and and an A in A Level maths

I believe little steps is the best way to improve. By this, it can range from practice paper questions to writing out steps for specific types of methods.
Learning is also different for everyone, and this is something I consider strongly when teaching. Some students may benefit from thinking of examples, whereas others are more practical and prefer focusing on pure calculations. This is something I will tailor depending on who I am tutoring.
I am approachable and kind, I will not ever pressurise students to find a solution, as I think this is counterproductive. It is more useful to take things step by step, and not to cause anxiety in the process. Anxiety and stress adds an extra layer of difficulty to exams and this is something that I believe can and should be avoided.
I will happily answer questions and will also challenge students.
