About Charlie

I recently graduated from LSE with a First Class degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and this autumn I'm beginning an MPhil in Economics at the University of Oxford. Economics is the subject I've committed to pursuing at postgraduate level, so it's one I know well and genuinely enjoy. I'm especially comfortable bridging the gap between the theory and the maths, which is often where economics students feel most stuck.

Before university I spent a gap year working as a classroom assistant in a UK prep school and an Australian secondary school, working alongside teachers with students from primary age through to sixth form. That experience taught me how differently people learn and how much a student's confidence shapes their results, particularly in a subject that combines essay writing with quantitative reasoning the way economics does.

I'm patient, reliable and easy to get on with, and I take the responsibility of tutoring seriously. I always turn up prepared, communicate clearly with students and parents, and genuinely care whether a student improves. My aim is always for a student to leave a lesson understanding something they didn't before, and feeling more capable than when they started.

English

I'm a recent LSE graduate (First Class, Philosophy, Politics and Economics) heading to Oxford this autumn for an MPhil in Economics. Economics was the core of my degree — I achieved Firsts across microeconomics, macroeconomics and international trade — and I'm equally comfortable with the quantitative side, including econometrics and statistics, which is where a lot of students find they need the most help. I also spent a gap year working as a classroom assistant in a UK prep school (ages 7–13) and an Australian secondary school (ages 12–18), so I've worked with students across a wide range of ages and abilities in a school setting.

My method is straightforward. I start by finding out exactly where a student is struggling, then work through the underlying concept until it's clear, and lock it in with worked examples and past-paper practice under exam conditions. Economics rewards students who can apply theory to unfamiliar scenarios and write clear, well-structured analysis, so alongside the content I focus on exam technique — essay structure, data-response questions, and diagram work. I set focused practice between lessons and track progress so we always know what to prioritise next.

I teach GCSE and A-level Economics across the major exam boards, and I support undergraduates with introductory micro and macro, econometrics and quantitative methods. Whether the goal is a top grade, getting to grips with the maths behind the theory, or building confidence with essay-based questions, I tailor each lesson to the individual student.

Lessons are typically one hour, with longer sessions available for intensive exam preparation. Having worked with school-age students day-to-day, I adapt my manner to the age and confidence of whoever I'm teaching.

Alongside curriculum tutoring, I offer specialist support for university admissions in economics and related subjects. Having recently secured a place on Oxford's MPhil in Economics after completing my PPE degree at LSE, I can help with the TSA, admissions interviews, and personal statements for applicants to Oxbridge, LSE and other top universities. This is a distinct kind of preparation, and I'm glad to discuss it with families looking specifically for admissions coaching.

I'm based in London over the summer and moving to Oxford in late September for postgraduate study; from the autumn I continue to tutor online with more limited availability.
