About Ralph

Hi, I’m Ralph — a South African Network & Security Engineer with hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise networks across data centers, cloud platforms, and multi-site environments. I specialize in: FortiGate firewalls (30G/70F/120G/200G series) Aruba & Dell enterprise switching SD-WAN design and troubleshooting IPSec VPNs, routing protocols (BGP/OSPF) Network automation (Python & NetBox integrations) Security fundamentals and best practices I’ve worked on complex projects involving high-availability firewalls, multi-vendor infrastructure, cross-connects, cloud integrations, and large-scale network refreshes. But despite the complexity of my day-to-day work, I love breaking things down into simple, clear lessons that anyone can understand. Teaching and mentoring new engineers is something I genuinely enjoy — especially helping beginners build confidence and understand concepts they once found intimidating

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to make Networking Fundamentals simple, practical, and easy to understand, even if you’re starting from zero. I teach using real-world examples from the environments I work in every day — data centers, firewalls, cloud networks, SD-WAN, and enterprise switching. Each lesson is structured to help you understand the “why” behind everything, not just memorize terms. What my lessons look like Clear explanations using diagrams and real scenarios Step-by-step breakdowns of concepts Practical exercises you can repeat at home Short labs that build real skills Troubleshooting methods used by actual engineers A friendly, patient teaching style Topics we cover (depending on your level) Beginner fundamentals: What networks are and how they work IP addresses, subnetting, routing basics VLANs, switching, trunking Firewalls, NAT, ports & protocols Wi-Fi & home/office network design VPN basics (IPSec, SSL) How to troubleshoot like a pro Intermediate / career-focused: CCNA-aligned topics Building a home lab Understanding enterprise firewalls (FortiGate basics) Cloud networking fundamentals (Azure) Intro to BGP, OSPF, and routing decisions Network security basics Who I teach Complete beginners Students studying for N+, CCNA or Cybersecurity Helpdesk/IT support wanting to level up People entering the IT job market Small business owners wanting to understand their network Anyone wanting strong networking foundations before moving to security or cloud My teaching style I keep lessons relaxed, structured, and highly practical. No jargon. No overcomplicated explanations. Just clear, real networking that finally clicks.
