About Conor

I became a tutor because I enjoy helping students move from confusion to confidence. Science can feel overwhelming when it is taught as a list of rules, equations and facts to memorise, but I believe it becomes much easier when students understand the logic behind the ideas.

My own background is in research and teaching, so I know how important clear explanation, patience and encouragement can be. I particularly enjoy working with students who feel capable but stuck, or who need help turning their knowledge into strong exam answers, essays or lab reports.

I try to create a calm and supportive learning environment where students can ask questions freely, make mistakes without embarrassment, and build their understanding step by step. My aim is not just to help students get through a difficult topic, but to help them become more independent, confident learners.

I care about teaching because good support can make a real difference, especially for students who simply need someone to explain things clearly and take their difficulties seriously.

About the lesson

I am a PhD-trained scientist with a background in cell and molecular biophysics, fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy. I completed my PhD at King’s College London and now teach and carry out research at Brunel University London. I tutor A-level Chemistry, with particular support available in physical chemistry, spectroscopy, analytical methods and biophysical chemistry.

My approach is structured, calm and student-focused. I start by finding out where the student is struggling, then break the topic down into clear steps using diagrams, examples, questions and discussion. For A-level students, I focus on understanding the content, applying it to exam questions, interpreting data and using mark schemes effectively. For university students, I can support lecture material, essays, lab reports, dissertations, presentations and research projects.

Lessons are usually one hour and are held online. I work best with motivated A-level students, undergraduate chemistry and life sciences students, and learners who want detailed yet accessible explanations of difficult biological and chemical concepts.

Details

Lessons are £45/hr online. I offer a free 30-minute introductory session to discuss the student’s goals, current level, exam board or university module, and the areas where they need support. Regular weekly lessons are recommended for steady progress, with additional revision or coursework-support sessions available when needed
